Position: Part-Time Library Assistant
Accountable to: Library Director

Job Summary: Work involves providing library services to children or adults, reference work, materials review, cataloging, keeping current of new technologies and methods, attending meetings and workshops, and programming. This position requires that the employees have good knowledge, skill, and ability in providing customer service and library organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Catalogs library materials as requested.
  • Provides basic reference services and reader's services.
  • Creates displays to highlight book collections or services.
  • Responds to telephone and in-person requests for information and research.
  • Participates in the weeding and development of the Library's collections including recordings, audio books, reference and circulating books, videos and electronic and digital resources.
  • Assists in material selection and acquisition through book review reading, book selection meetings and contact with patrons.
  • Performs circulation tasks using automated circulation system, such as charging materials, collecting fines, and preparing library cards, as necessary.
  • Performs related work as required.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Successful completion of High School or GED required. College course work or certification is preferred.
  • Library experience and certification is preferred.
  • Teaching experience and certification will be considered for applicants seeking to work in the Children’s Department.
  • Knowledge of current Springville Public Library circulation software is desired.
